Donell Jones was backstage at the Wine & Slow Jams Festival in Maryland on Saturday, and he just let it slip that he and Joe are supposed to be squaring off in a Verzuz battle on August 20th. Now, Verzuz ain’t said nothing official yet. Even Complex, the media outlet that pretty much lives and breathes hip hop culture, hit X with a confused “y’all know something we don’t???”But Jones was real chill about it.

He made it clear this ain’t about no rivalry. He said “We grown a— men” and framed this whole thing as a celebration of the music. Two brothers who’ve been in the game for decades, about to trade hits on stage. That’s the energy we need. Both of these dudes got catalogues that go stupid deep. You got “Where I Wanna Be” and “Knocks Me Off My Feet” on one side. You got “I Wanna Know” and “All the Things (Your Man Won’t Do)” on the other. This could be one of those nights where the stream breaks and everybody’s texting their ex. It’s not officially confirmed yet, but the streets are already talking. And honestly, that’s half the fun.
